Inspiration and foresight are great for any business, but to be able to see decades ahead is what separates some from most. With the amazing surplus left behind at the end of World War II, Westport resident Ed Kahn, had a masterstroke of genius concerning what could be done. He then started what would become a 60–year history of industry leadership and success for Electric Control Equipment Company.

Ed's vision was to take advantage of the huge amount of surplus switchgear left over from WWII and supply industrial circuit breakers and electrical equipment to major commercial clients and utilities. As the United States' industrial base flourished after the war, he quickly found himself selling remanufactured circuit breakers, electrical equipment and used switchgear throughout the country. He built the business on the cornerstones of a commitment to quality, a complete understanding of customer needs and a devotion to customer service. As a result, Electric Control became a huge success.

Electric Control now sells products worldwide, and the shop is noted for its quick response and quality-oriented team. Electric Control can fulfill any user's requirements for custom and remanufactured switchgear, all related industrial circuit breakers, parts, rentals and emergency work. The company supplies large industrial end users, utilities, municipalities, government facilities, hospitals, large schools, airports and Fortune 500 companies with circuit breakers and customized switchgear parts and services to match the customers' needs.

Collected and continually resupplied over the last 60 years, Electric Control offers available stock for virtually any circuit breaker made from 1940 to the present. Client partnerships provide the end customer with one of the most extensive inventories of components and parts from most breaker manufacturers, as well as the ability to solve obsolete part issues. Breakers and components are in stock from manufacturers such as General Electric, Westinghouse/Cutler Hammer, ITE, ABB, Siemens Allis, Federal Pacific, Federal Pioneer, S&C Electric and others.

In 2011, Electric Control finished construction on a 5,000 square foot, safety&hdash;certified building completely dedicated to the refurbishment of nuclear circuit breakers and switchgear. All test equipment and tools are calibrated to nuclear standards on a continual basis, so clients are assured our remanufactured products are as good as new.

Recently, Electric Control entered a formal agreement with ATC Nuclear. ATC is well-known for providing customers with solutions to their maintenance and operating problems, and breaker repair and refurbishment for nuclear plants and power companies is no exception. Their teaming arrangements with Dresser–Rand, Haynes, Siemens, Honeywell, and now Electric Control are illustrations of a commitment to delivering quality workmanship and a timely supply of remanufactured circuit breakers and qualified parts to the nuclear industry. ATC Nuclear and Electric Control recently finished safety related breaker refurbishment for Constellation Energy. On its own, Electric Control has also completed non–safety related work for TVA, River Bend, Farley, Dominion, Exelon and Entergy, among others.

Electric Control is proud of its 60–year heritage and continues to honor the vision and superior business practices of its founder Ed Kahn. We look forward to serving you in the near future.
