Westinghouse 5000V & 15,000V Circuit Breaker: 1945 - The Present
The early 5000 volt Westinghouse circuit breakers were solenoid operated and had large arc chutes. A basic platform was actually manufactured in 1945 and continued for over 20 years. The Westinghouse DH air circuit breaker was a very popular model, and featured several IAC ratings. Types were 50-DH-50, 50-DH-75, 50-DH-150, and 50-DH-250. They came in 600 amp, 1200 amp, and 2000 amp. The 50-DH-350 circuit breakers made later, also came also in a 3000 amp model.
15000 volt Westinghouse circuit breakers also came in several models, based on IAC ratings. Types were 150-DH-150, 150-DH-250, 150-DH-500, 150-DH-750, and 150 DH-1000. While these were considered reliable circuit breakers, Westinghouse, to combat moisture issues in poles and arc chutes, developed a new circuit breaker around 1970, Westinghouse DHP circuit breaker or porcelain DHP type. These breakers had porcelain bushings which replaced older paper wound bushings. The DHP bushings had other problems, but they did not absorb moisture. Types were: 50-DHP-75, 50-DHP-250, 50-DHP-350. Amperage ratings follow preceding guidelines.
Westinghouse 15 Kv, DHP models were as follows: 150-DHP-250, 150-DHP-500, 150-DHP-750, 150-DHP-1000. 7200 volt models were produced also. The main one being 75-DHP-500.
Westinghouse vacuum circuit breakers were produced in the late 1970’s and Westinghouse sold their circuit breaker division to Eaton / Cutler Hammer . At that time many of the Cutler Hammer vacuum circuit breakers began as Westinghouse vacuum circuit breakers. They are still manufactured in 5000 volt, 15000 volt, and also 38,000 volts. Also produced were 7200 volt Cutler Hammer vacuum breakers.
These types were as follows: 50-VCP-250, 50 VCPW-250, 50-VCP-350, 50-VCPW-350. 7200 voltmeters were 75 VCP-500 and 75 VCPW-50. 15000 volt breakers were 150 VCP-500, 150 VCPW-500, 150 VCP-750-150, VCPW 750 and 150 VCP 1000 and 150 VCPW 1000.
