Low Voltage Circuit Breakers Are Used In Many Applications
Low voltage circuit breakers are used perhaps more than any other type of device in both the commercial and industrial market. The reason low voltage circuit breakers are used so often is simply because there are more devices in this range than there are in the medium and high range. It is simply a question of supply and demand.
Low Voltage Circuit Breakers Available from Every Manufacturer
Because low voltage circuit breakers are used so much, it goes without saying that there are many different types of devices in this range. Every major manufacturer from ABB to Siemens offers some type of low voltage circuit breaker line of products. While the basic principle behind each of these devices is fairly the same, the way that each device works and the design of each device may not be the same. In other words, while all low voltage circuit breakers do basically the same job, they may not look alike.
Know Type, Voltage, Brand and Specs of Low Voltage Breakers Before Ordering
It is for this reason that when replacing devices, that maintenance personnel must order the exact same type of device as what is being replaced. You cannot simply say, "I need some 20 amp low voltage circuit breakers" and expect to get what you need. You must know the type, brand, and specifications of any low voltage circuit breakers before ordering.
The usual place to get this important information is inside the panel box. One should always kill the power before going into the panel box to prevent accidental shock and possible death. Once you have identified the low voltage circuit breakers that are down, match that up with the panel information that is supplied inside the panel, and use that information when ordering.
Retrofitting Low Voltage Circuit Breakers Saves Money
Low voltage circuit breakers can also be retrofitted, which is a good way to save money if you have several to repair or upgrade. A retrofit is basically a rebuilding procedure where new parts are installed into the old frame. It is an affordable way to get like-new devices without having to pay new prices.
Major Differences From Brand to Brand
Of primary importance when ordering devices is to order the same brand that is being replaced. If the old devices were manufactured by ABB or by GE or some other company, you should get the same type when replacing. This is due to the fact that many companies will have designed their own devices and there may be slight or even major differences in the low voltage circuit breakers that you are using, as compared to other brands.
