Compatible Circuit Breakers for GE Breaker Boxes

Breaker boxes, sometimes called distribution boards, are used as a foundation for power or electricity distribution to several sources. Frequently used in homes, breaker boxes act as a safety device that regulates the amount of electricity traveling through any outlet. If a surplus of electricity rushes through a particular outlet, it will set off what is known as the circuit breaker. The breaker will switch off the power until it is reset by hand, keeping a hazardous surge from passing through any part of a home’s electricity system.

General Electric, also known as GE, is one of the biggest distribution board creators in the U.S. Select circuit breakers that safely match a GE breaker box.

The safest bet is to use GE circuit breakers with GE breaker boxes, as they were created to fit each other. The General Electric circuit breakers aren’t difficult to find because the packaging indicates which breaker box it fits with.

Siemens circuit breakers can also sometimes be used with GE breaker boxes, so long as the model, size and voltage match up with what that particular breaker box requires. Using the wrong size breaker with an incorrect voltage output could result in the breaker not switching off the power in time to prevent a surge. Moreover, that means that the breaker box could meltdown and a fire could occur. This is why it’s extremely important for the correct breaker to be used.

There is an even higher risk of surge failure when it comes to using party breakers from lesser-known companies, which is why it isn’t suggested. But if you choose to go this route for money-saving purposes, always match by size and voltage. Also, if you’re able to contact the dealer and get advice about a lesser-known breaker, do so. However, understand that this doesn’t ensure that the breaker will work properly.
